January 2011 - Conservative Republicans rode a big red wave across the U.S.A. on Election Day, November 2nd. By replacing the ultra-liberal Pelosi Congress, Americans made great strides in returning sanity as well as civility to Washington D.C. The Republican Party, with all of its faults, remains the home to most of America's conservative Christian movement and those who still respect private enterprise and a Judeo-Christian based rule of law as designed and framed in the United States Constitution by our founding fathers. Here in Washington State, however, hopes of regaining a conservative majority in our State Legislature and U.S. Congressional delegation were dashed once again when late vote counts broke heavily toward the Democratic side. For the past several weeks, I've been discussing our state's political conundrum with conservative legislators and Christian leaders from around Washington State. While it is no secret that some "moderate" Republican leaders and even a few prominent pastors continue to promote a wholesale retreat on the "controversial social issues", I can tell you there is a strong consensus that the Republican Party ought to never abandon its principles, especially on the issues of Human Life, Marriage, and Limited Government.Instead, we should be redoubling our efforts, standing our ground, and fighting the good fight with all of our strength! In 2008, millions of naïve Americans (many of them Christians) were hoodwinked by Barack Obama's lofty rhetoric and hollow promises of "hope and change", not realizing he would use his presidency to lurch America leftward. Ephesians 6:13 tells us to "put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand." Where do we go from here? Christian political involvement in local governments in the coming months is more critical than ever as cities, towns and counties look for common sense ways to cope with the oppressive federal and state policies and programs imposed on them by the liberal Democratic majorities remaining in Olympia and Washington D.C. For 2011 at the federal level and state levels, the Washington Values Alliance encourages support for common sense legislation that adheres to constitutional standards. Here are a few examples of specific Federal and State legislation we are supporting in 2011:
For Christians in Washington State, ours must remain a long term strategy. As Senator Val Stevens reminded attendees at the Dec. 14 WAVA Christmas Dinner, the legislative district she now serves has changed dramatically in recent years due to the activism of local conservatives, many of whom are Christians. Once dominated by two of the most radical left members of the state legislature, Senator Stevens' district now enjoys the leadership of three solidly Christian conservatives. "The LORD is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me"? (Psalm 118: 6) When Christians tell me they are "fearful" or "uncomfortable" with political involvement or even voting, I remind them that we are fortunate to be living at a time when new laws and legislation are ratified with the stroke of a pen, not a sword! To be sure, we are living in evil times. As Christians we are required to take a stand against the ongoing abortion holocaust, the homosexual agenda, and Godless Darwinian Socialism. To not do so is tantamount to denying Christ! Matthew 5:13 tells us that we are the "the salt of the earth", then asks the question: "But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men."
